Three Channels Receive Warning from PEMRA

Recently, a warning notice was issued by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to three Pakistani channels because of their showing of ‘indecent content’. PEMRA told that in case of further violations, it will take strict action against these channels. These 3 channels are:
1. Geo Entertainment
2. ARY Communications,
3. HUM TV.
The authority issued separate warnings to these TV channels and also ordered them to act according to the terms and conditions laid down in their licenses. PEMRA also told then to give importance to the social norms of the country and avoid such things in the future by appointing in-house editorial committees effectively.
The governing body didn’t provide details about the unlawful content but briefly mentioned the incidents that violated PEMRA’s rules and regulations.
Geo Entertainment
On 7th August 2017, indecent content was aired on Geo TV during a drama serial. This was not only breaking the provisions of the 2015 Electronic Media Code of Conduct but was also against the socio cultural norms and values of the country. It was told by an official of PEMRA that the name of the drama is “Khaali Haath”.
ARY Communication
ARY has the landing rights of HBO Pakistan and release of indecent content on HBO Pakistan on 10th April 2017 was the reason behind the issuance of notice to ARY by PEMRA.
Hum TV
The last warning by PEMRA was given to Hum TV as it showed indecent content on 21st May 2017 in a drama serial. According to PEMRA, the name of that drama was “Kitni Girhain Baaki Hain”.
